Cosmic Wind
- Cost: 1 MP/hit point of damage inflicted; 1D4 Sanity points
- Casting time: 1 round
This power directs a beam of cosmic rays, beta particles, and high-energy light at the target. It costs 1 magic point per hit point of damage inflicted. Long term-effect on human beings are determined by the number of hit points lost. Suffering 5 HPs of damage causes a sunburn, 10 HPs causes radiation sickness, and 15 HPs forces a Luck roll to avoid developing cancer.
Electrical Flare
- Cost: 2–5 magic points
- Casting time: 2 rounds
This power is used by the Mi-Go to deactivate and disable electronic devices. The power is not innate to the Mi-Go themselves, but part of their sentinel orb technology. When in “green” form, a sentinel orb may take one round to scan a 120-yard radius for all devices that use electricity—cell phones, tablets, computers, lights, appliances, engine ignitions, even battery-operated devices such as flashlights, toys, watches, vibrators, and remote controls. The following round the orb issues a pulse of green light that deactivates these devices. This power costs 2 magic points to employ, but for an additional 3 magic points certain devices can be permanently erased and restored back to factory settings. This includes hard drives, memory cards, flash memory, magnetic tape, and credit card chips. (It has no effect on CDs, DVDs, or Blu-rays.) The effects last until the sentinel orb departs the area, after which the devices return to normal in 1D3+1 minutes. (Erased data remains permanently deleted.)
Paralyze Lesser Being
- Cost: 10 magic points; 1D3 Sanity points
- Casting time: 1 round
This power is used by the Mi-Go to paralyze human beings, usually prior to abduction and implantation. The power is not innate to the Mi-Go themselves, but part of their sentinel orb technology. When in “blue” form, a sentinel orb may issue a flash that paralyzes any creature with a central nervous system. The victim must be able to see the flash for the power to take effect. The victim feels a sudden tingling sensation across his entire body, and must make a Hard Power roll followed by a Hard Constitution roll. If both rolls are successful, the character remains free, and cannot be paralyzed by this method again for another 24 hours. If one of these roll fails, the character becomes paralyzed, and cannot move or speak. (Paralyzed characters who made the POW roll usually retain more awareness of what’s going on, while those who made the CON roll suffer less physical trauma and after-effects.)
Paralyzed victims are allowed no conscious opposition to spells like Hypnosis, Mental Suggestion, and Cloud Memory. Unless the Mi-Go have resorted to other methods to keep the subject sedated, Paralyze Lesser Being wears off in 1D3+1 hours. Further use of this power against the same being depends on their initial resistance roll. Those who failed both rolls become more susceptible to the power, and suffer a –1D10 penalty die to each further attempt. Those who passed one of the rolls earn a +1D10 bonus die to resist future attempts. Passing both rolls adds +2D10 bonus dice.
Once the Mi-Go are finished with their prisoners, they typically use Cloud Memory to erase the experience from the victim’s consciousness. Such subjects often awake with a splitting headache and a sense of disorientation and time loss. If the CON roll was failed, subjects may have a sunburn where they were flashed. Many abductees find their experiences tend to resurface months, or even years later in nightmares; this may cause additional Sanity loss. Regressive hypnosis may be used to recover these “lost memories,” especially for subjects who passed the initial Power roll.
Variation: Paralyze Greater Being
The Mi-Go Ventla can project a stronger version of this power that affects all sentient beings within sight of the flying machine. This “Paralyze Greater Being” may only be resisted with an Extreme Power and an Extreme Constitution roll. Using this psychotechnic power drains energy from nearby devices—car engines stall, lights fail, even watches stop working. Paralyze Greater Being lasts for 2D10+2 hours.
