The classification of these orbs really varies quite a bit. There are different colors and sizes; some of the colors reported were white, yellow, blue, red, and green. Reports I have seen suggested the blue orbs in particular had a very negative biological consequence, meaning if you got close to one of these, you could expect to be injured.
—Luis Elizondo “Imminent” (2024)
Alternate names: Foo fighters, luminous aethereals
The Mi-Go monitor human activity through luminous aethereals, floating orbs that appear like balls of St. Elmo’s fire. Although green is the most common color, the hue of a sentinel orb depends on the power being exercised. When an orb is in its neutral “white” state, it may record electromagnetic and sonic data, much like a sophisticated camera system. A shift to red or yellow grants it control over the infrared spectrum, while a green orb can erase and reprogram human computers and alter the frequencies of small electronic devices, rendering cell phones, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth inoperable. By shifting into blue, the orb may deliver powerful electromagnetic discharges. Sentinel orbs are impervious to most human mechanical and electronic interference, but can be destroyed by a 500-tesla EMP pulse. This makes then vulnerable to most flux capacity generators.
Special Powers
Amplify Power: When paired with Mi-Go or gray homunculi, a sentinel orb may supercharge its partners’ Power up to POW 25. These extra points are not drawn from the orb’s Power, so do not diminish the orb’s capabilities. Once the Power has been depleted, the orb must undergo a rest and replenishment cycle for these points to regenerate.
Electrical Discharge: By spending 5 magic points, a sentinel orb may lash out with an Electrical Discharge that does damage to all creatures material and incorporeal. This power shifts the frequency of the orb into the blue and ultraviolent spectrum, changing the color of the orb and causing sunburn in humans. Multiple targets may be included at the cost of 2 magic points/additional target.
Heat Ray: By shifting its color from yellow to red, a sentinel orb may project a powerful beam of infrared radiation. Sustained contact with this beam causes steady heating and eventual damage. This power costs 1 magic point/round to sustain.
| Round of Heating | Effects |
| 1 | Noticeable increase in temperature |
| 2 | 1 damage |
| 3 | 1D3 damage |
| 4 | 1D4 damage |
| 5 | 1D6 damage, cloth and paper ignite |
| 6 | 1D8 damage, ammunition cooks off |
| 7+ | 1D10 damage, most metals melt |
Probe: In its green form, a sentinel orb may Probe any area within a 12 foot radius. This creates a matrix of green lasers that highlights all items containing metals and semi-metals. This includes electronic devices and most weapons like knives and firearms. Wood, plastic, and organic chemicals remain undetected. By spending 1 magic point per item, electronic items may be wiped and reset to factory conditions. Spending 2 magic points permanently fries a device.

Attacks per round: 1
A sentinel orb may attack using Electrical Discharge or Heat Ray, or it may “cast a spell.” (Note that such “spells” are science fiction equivalents of standard Call of Cthulhu spells. Most of these spells shift the orb into the blue or UV spectrum, and often result in giving their victims painful sunburns.)

Sources & Notes
Luminous, floating orbs have long been an important part of ufology! The main inspiration for the Mi-Go sentinel orbs comes from Luis Elizondo’s 2024 book, Imminent. The image was created using Google Gemini on 23 August 2026.
