His descendants still seek, nor will they find, the one word that contains the universe
The Borges Center
Back in the late 1990s, my friend Ivan Almeida and the magnificently-named Cristina Parodi ran the Jorge Luis Borges Center from the University of Aarhus in Denmark. The Garden of Forking Paths was proud to have designed and temporarily hosted their first Web site, which was soon transferred over to the University. Almeida and Parodi retired in 2005, and the Borges Center moved to the University of Iowa under Daniel Balderston. It now resides with the capable Professor Balderston at his current academic home, the University of Pittsburgh.
The Borges Center is dedicated to the research of works by Jorge Luis Borges, the study of themes and the style of thinking found in his work, and the compilation and translation of works by and about Borges. It remains one of the world’s best resources on the works of Borges, and features extensive criticism, Borges-related news, and a very useful “Finder’s Guide” to his work. The Borges Center publishes the trilingual journal Variacions Borges, which may be ordered from their site.
