Synopsis
Emma Zunz is a joint production with France’s Cinétévé. According to Cinétévé—and I refuse to reword this amazingly-translated synopsis into better English—the movie is about: “A young 19 years old girl, Emma Zunz, lives modestly in a harbour town, in the beginning of the 20’S. She is a worker at the Lowenthal’s factory, the man who bankrupted her father. When she learns the death of her father, runned away abroad further to his bankruptcy, Emma Zunz decides to kill Lowenthal. She prepares in a few days her plan: She will give herself (for the first time ) to a passing through sailor just before killing Lowenthal , the murder becoming thus the legitimate answer to the rape that Lowenthal may have inflicted her.”
Comments
In 1993, Televisión Española (RTVE) aired a limited series called Los cuentos de Borges, or “Borges Tales.” Consisting of six hour-long episodes, each was an adaptation of a Borges story helmed by a different director. The BBC and France’s Cinétévé also participated in the project.
