Pynchon Music: Tim Ware
Tim Ware (b. 1948)
The Internet’s foremost webmaster of All Things Pynchon, Tim Ware has also enjoyed a career as a musician with a wide range of talents and interests. In the 1980s, he played mandolin and guitar in various iterations of the Tim Ware Group, working with such musicians as David Grisman, Mark O’Connor, and David Balakrishnan of the Turtle Island Spring Quartet. He later began experimenting with electronic music, composing a few pieces inspired by the works of Thomas Pynchon. More recently, Ware has composed several soundtracks, including two for Emmy-award winning documentaries. You can hear Tim Ware’s music on his eclectic homepage, TimWare.com. Listen to the tracks in peaceful solitude within the twilit side of the room lit by a Tiffany lamp… And yes, we have access to more modern photographs of Tim, but that Wikipedia image is going to stay on Spermatikos Logos forever!
Pynchon-Inspired Tracks
She Hangs On the Western Wall — This work takes its name from the subtitle of V.’s Chapter 7. Available on Soundcloud.
Edge of the Wave-Green World — A peaceful meditation named after a line from Gravity’s Rainbow: “While neo-Potemkins ranged the deep Arctic for her, skilled and technocratic wolves iterating settlements out of tundra, entire urban abstractions fit of the ice and snow, bold Tchitcherine was back at the capital, snuggled away in her dacha, where they played at fisherman and fish, terrorist and State, explorer and edge of the wavegreen world.” Available on Soundcloud.
