Pynchon Music: XXX Atomic Toejam
XXX Atomic Toejam (1993)
Audio LSD for the activation of divine parts of the spine (cerebral cortex, nexus of transpersonal visionary experiences and the 7 Chakras of true illumination in the Kundalini), inducing visions of intense hypereuphoria evolving from deep within the personnel on this audio trip, fusing grinding guitars and hypnobeats into ‘300 watts of sonic apocalypse,’ are Petter Marklund (innovator of sonic soundscapes in Memorandum), and Fredrik Thordendal (from praised thrash-heroes Meshuggah). In 1993 they teamed up for a couple-three songs on the Swedish Cold Meat label, but the promised LP never materialized. Their song “I’m a Cop” is a tribute to Thomas Pynchon, and is supposedly a “psilocyberdelic incarnation of el lyrico bizzaro in Billy Barf and the Vomitones’ three-note blues.”

Notes
A wide-ranged sampler, giving you a perfect idea of how the different bands sound, but also a great view of what Roger Karmanik’s Cold Meat Industry really is about and what to expect from a CMI release. Even as just a CD of music, this one is exceptional, dark soundscapes encompassing the aggressive and the atmospheric. Beginning with harsh industrial dance songs, into brutal industrial soundscapes and finally finishes with a combination of soft drones, oceanic rhythms and spiritual wanderings. The disc is served with a 20 page full colour booklet including brief presentations and photos of all groups. A macabre menu with delicious specimens of Cold Meat, the ultimate smörgåsbord!
