This nice cutaway shows the action of the Evans Repeater. Note the Archimedes screw and the insane number of rounds. When the lever was pulled, the action rotated the screw and fed the next round into the chamber. I found this on a gun-owner blog, but I’ve seen it all over the Web. I think the original poster was an Evans-owner named “HappyTrails.”
