The Hollow
One of Kingsport’s oldest residential areas, the Hollow lies between three hills: Central Hill to the south, Blake Hill to the southeast, and Providence Hill to the northwest. Blake’s Creek flows directly through the Hollow, carrying run-off from Kingsport Head down to the harbor. The Hollow is Kingsport’s most picturesque neighborhood, featuring quaint shops and taverns near Harborside, and scattered Georgian homes as one moves deeper inland. The Hollow has successfully resisted commercialization, and boasts the most natural features of any Kingsport neighborhood save the outer reaches of South Shore. Blake’s Mill Pond rests below Blake Hill, which features a still-operational gristmill constructed by Percy Blake in 1744. Providence Hill is topped by a charming windmill, recently given a fresh coat of green paint. Several wooden bridges span Blake’s Creek, and the trees along the banks are maintained with loving care by the community.
